Mood Boards

What exactly are mood boards?

A mood board is a collection of ideas and pictures that you can literally stick together on a board. This enables you to see the overall concept of the room you want to decorate. It is very useful to be able to see how different colours, furniture and décor will fit together smoothly. You do not want it to look out of place from the rest of the house.

You want to create a space that you can be proud of and that is pleasing to the eye.

Working out all the individual details can be confusing when you are just picturing it in your head. It is easier and of course a lot more fun to create on mood boards.

You will be able to see the overall finish even down to the lamps, rugs, cushions and pictures that make a big impact to the space.
With this mood board you can involve the other members in your family or your partner and they can have input. Working together on a plan like this makes the whole renovating/redecorating process fun and creative.

These days you can get apps like Pinterest that can help you pin ideas and photos to a board, so to build up an idea for a room or rooms in your home.
Some other apps like Milanote, Instagram, Moodzer and Olioboard and also great. There are many around to help you with your concept.

Where to start?

You may not know where to start.

Do you have a piece of furniture you are keeping? Or a piece of art work that you love? Pick a key piece in the room that you can base your ideas on. For example if the corner sofa you just purchased is dark green, you can work around that colour tone and create a new scheme to complement it.

Or maybe you have a huge art canvas that you want to feature but you dislike the rest of the room. Centre the redesign on that canvas. Take inspiration from the colours or the style of painting.
Either way, redecorating your home or doing a whole redesign should be made as fun and easy as possible.
